Coppel starts operations with a new CEDIS in Monterrey

Coppel's Distribution Center (Cedis) began operations in Monterrey, Nuevo León, within the Vesta Park Guadalupe, almost a year after the announcement made in November of last year, when it said that the investment would be around 32 million dollars. .

The company reported that this new property will occupy a space of 15,564 square meters and will have a capacity to store 22,000 cubic meters of merchandise, which will strengthen its omnichannel offer and face the exponential growth that its digital channel had during the pandemic.

The company's objective is to strengthen the logistics capacity in the region to achieve 321 thousand deliveries per year, manage the inventory of 120 stores and serve more than 650 thousand clients in the Monterrey Metropolitan Area, according to a statement.

Coppel will additionally invest more than 17 million dollars for the adjustments within the building and in leasing plus human capital during the next ten years.

For its part, Vesta invested 12.9 million dollars for the LEED-certified building, to avoid the emission of 86,200 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the environment.

Domingo Soto, real estate director of Grupo Coppel, said that in February 2022, "Vesta will deliver an industrial warehouse to us in Tijuana, Baja California, where we will install a second Cedis to serve the northern region of Mexico."

The investment of the second ship considers more than 23 million dollars, capital that will be invested in adjustments, leasing and human capital during the next decade.

With this investment, Coppel will receive import containers from the Port of Ensenada and will serve the inventory of 38 stores.

It will also serve more than 100,000 customers and make more than 140,000 deliveries a year to buyers in Tijuana, Ensenada and Tecate. And it will have an investment of 18.9 million dollars for an area of 29,748 square meters.

For its part, Vesta pointed out that through a better location and use of energy in an optimized way, the company creates adequate logistics spaces to strengthen the presence of Coppel as a key player in electronic commerce.

Coppel data indicate that it had a growth in digital sales of 345% in 2020, and so far in 2021, it registered an increase of 27.5% compared to the same period a year before, and it plans to close with an increase of 50% by 2022.
