Construction Loses Momentum in July Due to Lower Public Investment

Construction investment began the second half of 2026 on a cautious note. Following the rebound seen in June, the sector retreated in July, impacted by a drop in non-residential projects and a marked slowdown in public spending.

The decline in construction contrasted with a 4.5% monthly increase in investment in machinery and equipment. Thanks to this performance, total gross fixed capital formation rose by 1.4% compared to June.

The result for public construction represents a significant slowdown compared to the 25.8% annual growth recorded in June. This trend coincided with a 13.49% monthly drop in the value of production generated by public-sector contractors, according to the National Survey of Construction Companies.
