Cofepris seeks to enhance the pharmaceutical industry

In the area of medicines, the backbone for the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (cofepris), achieved rapid and significant progress for the first time in 2023, in giving the green light to procedures that remained trapped in processes of being authorized.

Last year, more than 10,000 procedures were received and 9,880 were admitted, which means a surplus of 2.2 percent compared to previous years. Taking a perspective prior to the covid pandemic, in 2019, 10,748 requests for regulation and only 4,774 obtained approval.

The drive for agility has been a fundamental role in the search for growth for the pharmaceutical industry, making foreign and national investments in this sector easier to obtain.

The health agency developed a standard to certify the conduct of clinical research protocols, which significantly reduce approval response times.

With this new standard, Mexico will be a benchmark in the clinical industry for Latin America and will be able to compete against countries such as Argentina and Chile that lead this sector, and be able to attract greater investment in the future.
