CDMX after historical acquisition of Foreign Direct Investment
El Economista | August 24, 2022 |

Because this first semester was the best in terms of attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the history of Mexico City, it is expected that 2022 will close with a figure between 12 and 14 billion dollars.

In an interview with El Economista, the head of the Secretariat for Economic Development (Sedeco) of Mexico City, Fadlala Akabani Hneide, explained that the current economic dynamic is being improved.

According to the state official, if this amount of dollars is achieved, it would be the first time that the country's capital closes the year with such a total. Precisely, the closest date is 2010, with 10 billion FDI, according to the database of the Ministry of Economy.

Fadlala Akabani pointed out that the results obtained are due to three points: first, that the economic reactivation strategy has helped the commercial and service sectors, in addition to boosting the industrial sector; second, the promotion of the city as one of the safest points in the country is being sharpened; and third, the chaining of MSMEs with tractor companies.

From January to June of this 2022, the capital of the country captured 9,356.2 million dollars, never before had such a result been achieved since the Ministry of Economy began to prepare this database in 1999.

The closest amount is the first half of 2019, the pre-pandemic year, with 5,437.6 million dollars, from which 2020 follows, with 5,372.6 million.

This result is partly due to the fact that during the first quarter of 2022, Mexico City presented the highest amount of FDI received since the federal Ministry of Economy has registered, with 7,932 million dollars.

However, when reviewing only the second quarter, the city reached 1,086.3 million dollars, a figure that, although it exceeds the same period of time as the pandemic years, did not reach 2019, nor previous years.

From April to June 2021, the capital received 939.6 million dollars, while in the same period of time, in 2020, it was 677.1 million and in 2019 it was 2,097.5 million.

The capital president stressed that the entity is managing to lower crime rates, which places it in first position with the highest Competitiveness Index, but today we are the only entity in the Republic that is listed as a Competitiveness Index by the IMCO, as very good.
