Mexico's stock exchanges closed the first session of the week with moderate gains. Local indices rose, buoyed by positive sentiment among their foreign counterparts, in a market awaiting key economic data this week.

The main S&P/BMV IPC index of the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV)—which tracks the most actively traded local stocks—advanced 0.69% to 64,975.08 points. The FTSE BIVA index of the Institutional Stock Exchange (Biva) gained 0.48% to 1,316.80 points.

Within the benchmark index, the majority of stocks posted gains. Notable increases were seen in shares of airport operator GAP, up 3.89% to 379.01 pesos, and Carlos Slim's giant América Móvil, up 3.77% to 20.09 pesos.
