Baja California registers the largest increase in housing costs in the country

According to the Housing Price Index in Mexico, published by Sociedad Hipotecaria Federal (SHF), the state of Baja California Sur registered the highest increase in this indicator during 2020, with a variation of 8.2% compared to 2019.

The initial study showed that, at the national level, the price of housing increased 5.8%, on average, with respect to 2019. However, 23 entities had variations greater than the national average.

Baja California Sur is followed by the states of Jalisco, with an increase of 7.9%; Sinaloa, with 7.8%; Baja California, with 7.6%; Quintana Roo, with 7.5%; and Sonora and San Luis Potosí, with 7.3 percent.

On the contrary, nine entities registered variations lower than the national average: Tabasco, with 5.7%; Veracruz and Zacatecas, with 5.3%; Guerrero and the State of Mexico, with 5.1%; Morelos, with 5%; Hidalgo and Tlaxcala, with 4.8%; and Mexico City, with 1.6 percent.
