Automation progress in Mexico involves evaluating the cost of labor
T21 | December 03, 2022 |

With the growing demands of consumers, automation in warehouses and distribution centers has become a growth tool for companies, however, its degree of introduction in the Mexican market is between 10 and 20%.

According to Arturo Flores, Dematic's Vice President of Operations for North America, the main challenge of automation is cheap labor, a key element for companies to curb their investments in these technological infrastructures.

"There is still a lot of work to be done to generate confidence that these investments, which are high cost from a financial point of view, can generate points of return in the medium or short term," he said in an interview with T21.

Automation brings benefits to business operations, mainly in productivity, optimization of times, costs, quality, and improves the consumer experience by reducing delivery times.

"As we well know, on-time delivery is an indicator that we as users, whatever the product one is trying to acquire, is very important, so on-time delivery, quality, and cost are variables that define which supplier We are going to bow down to," he said.

Flores explained that with automation solutions, company operations can benefit from up to 95% optimization.

“The role of the people for me is very important, we are rewarding the best practices of the different plants in America so that we work in a standard way.

I also believe that the business part is a great responsibility, to continue contributing to the organization so that confidence in investment decision-making and business expansion gives Mexico an opportunity to compete with more developed countries such as the United States and Germany”, indicated Arturo Flores.
