Accelerate differentiating certifications to insert into Tesla supply chains
El Economista | March 03, 2023 |

Although it is a fact that the installation of a Tesla plant in the state of Nuevo León will bring benefits to the supply of the automotive industry in Mexico, the companies installed in Jalisco that are part of the supply chain of this sector must redouble their efforts. and promote training to obtain certifications that allow meeting the company's requirements.

This was what the president of the Automotive Cluster of the State of Jalisco, Rubén Reséndiz, commented to El Economista, after pointing out that, currently, most of the supply of the automotive sector in this region is for internal combustion vehicles and they must be trained to produce auto parts and components for electric cars.

The president of the automotive cluster in the state stressed that the first thing is to know the plan of the automotive company about the start of construction of the plant in the municipality of Santa Catarina, and when they will start the mass production of vehicles.

It is very probable that this will take approximately two years, under the assumption that there are two plants; one of them to manufacture batteries and another to produce a cheaper Tesla model, he said.

During that time, companies that are already part of the automotive ecosystem in the entity must take the opportunity to be certified with the support of both the cluster and local authorities, based on the criteria that Tesla defines for these job opportunities.

Until now, most automotive suppliers work for internal combustion vehicles, but electric cars, he said, have other types of requirements and require other certifications.

The president of the automotive cluster also indicated that since small and medium-sized companies do not have the capacity to cover the costs of certifications, the state government could generate support programs for them.

Currently, the Automotive Cluster of the State of Jalisco has 25 affiliated companies, although there are another 100 located that could participate in supplying the sector, as long as they obtain the certifications required by the industry.
