ABB plans to expand with 7 new plants in Mexico

Companies that are coming to Mexico attracted by nearshoring demand faster delivery times from the industry, which is why the Swiss-based manufacturer estimates that this aspect can make a difference in the market.

Electrical technologies manufacturer ABB plans to expand its capacity and infrastructure in seven of its nine plants in Mexico as nearshoring demands better delivery times.

Company executives in Mexico mentioned that they can make deliveries in up to six weeks, in line with the new demand from companies that relocate to the country.

“We are talking about at least six to seven plants that can have an expansion of between 20 and 100%,” Vicente Magaña, general director of ABB Mexico, told El Financiero.

The Swedish-Swiss manufacturer with headquarters in Zurich seeks to make energy automation and manufacturing technologies for different industries more efficient.

This data center manufacturer pointed out that in Mexico there is a great challenge in terms of electrification due to the transition towards clean energy, but the opportunity is greater for developing sustainable and efficient solutions.

Its expansion in the country will allow it to have new production buildings and a new portfolio in medium voltage lines, distribution, and motors, facilitating the manufacturing of technologies in the country that were previously imported.

Currently, ABB has two plants in the country in San Luis Potosí, three in Monterrey, one in Nogales and another in Jalisco, as well as a development center in Mérida, where the expansions will take place.
