5 states in the country concentrate 60% of FDI in Mexico in the first half of 2023

The Ministry of Economy announced that during the first semester of 2023, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Mexico was 29,041 million dollars, an amount 41% higher than that registered during the first semester of 2022.

The report detailed that, in said period, Mexico reaffirmed itself as a profitable destination, since 78% of FDI corresponded to reinvestment of profits by foreign companies that already have a presence in the country.

Furthermore, 15% was from accounts between companies and only 7% was contributed by new investments.

In the first six months of the year, FDI registered in the country confirmed the United States as Mexico's main trading partner with 43%, while Spain represented 15%, Argentina 8% and Japan 7%. These countries comprised 80% of FDI.

At the national level, the five entities with the highest FDI in the first half of 2023, and which concentrated 60% of it, were Mexico City, with 10,225 million dollars; Nuevo León, with 2,795 million dollars; Baja California, for an amount of 1,463 million dollars; Jalisco, with 1,390 million dollars and the State of Mexico, with 1,330 million dollars.

Finally, they detailed that 57% of FDI corresponded to the manufacturing sector, which includes the transportation equipment, metals, beverage and tobacco industry, chemical and food industries, electrical appliances and computer equipment.

27% remained in financial services, 5% in temporary accommodation, 3% in mining, 2% in construction, as well as transportation and wholesale trade.
